RICHARDSON, TX (05.14.22) - A day after collecting just its second-ever win in the NCAA D-III National Championship, the No. 29-ranked UT Dallas women's tennis team had its 2022 season come to a close with a 5-0 loss to No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer in the second round of the event Saturday afternoon.

The Comets wrapped up the campaign with a 12-3 overall record, winning the ASC title for the third straight season and fourth time in program history. UTD's Samantha Wong and Suzuka Nishino will continue their seasons, however, by competing in the NCAA D-III National Singles Championships, May 27-29, in Orlando, Fla.

The top-seeded Sagehens (20-2) opened the duel with a 3-0 mark in the doubles play, but the Comets did not make it easy for the No. 2-ranked team in the nation. Pomona-Pitzer opened the match with an 8-4 win at No. 1 and took a 2-0 lead with an 8-5 win at No. 2. UTD's No. 3 doubles squad of Nishino and Megan Zeng put up a valiant effort to try to avoid the sweep before falling, 8-6.

Pomona-Pitzer would add straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles to complete the team victory and advance to Sunday's regional title tile against conference foe Redlands at 12 p.m. At the conclusion of the match, UTD's Rebecca Jackson was up a set a No. 5 singles.
