Samantha Wong wrapped up their seasons Friday both in the second round of the NCAA D-III Singles National Championship, hosted at the USTA National Camps. Both Comets earned straight-set wins in Friday's opening match before falling to seeded opponents in the Round of 16 in the afternoon.
Wong, the ASC East Player of the Year, this spring kicked off her run in the singles draw with a 6-4, 6-2, win over MIT's Kimberly Liao. The Grapevine native then suffered a straight-set defeat, 6-4, 6-0, to top-seeded Sylwia Mikos from Chicago in the second round. Last spring, Wong and former Comet
Kathy Joseph advanced to the semifinals in the national doubles draw.
Nishino opened Friday's play with a 6-3, 6-1, victory over Bethel's Grace Reirmann in the first round before falling to No. 4 seed Angie Zhou of Pomona-Pitzer, 6-0, 6-0, in the second round. In the fall, Nishino advanced to the ITA Cup after claiming the regional singles title.
