RICHARDSON, Texas (09.01.22)Â - Battling a soggy field caused by late afternoon rain storms, the UT Dallas women's soccer team opened the 2022 campaign with a 3-2 loss to Milwaukee School of Engineering at the UTD Soccer Complex Thursday night.
The host Comets (0-1) netted the first goal of the game in the 18th minute when junior forward
Bella Granada went above the keeper's head after a pass from freshman midfielder
Janae Shaklee. The Raiders (1-1), who qualified for the 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship with an at-large bid, tied the contest in the 34th minute when Leena Afifi scored on an assist from Maggie Thillman.Â
Shaklee later gave UTD a 2-1 advantage with her first collegiate goal on a shot to high right corner in the 58th minute. Addison Spilman garnered the equalizer in the 80th minute on Thillman's second assist of the game. A foul in the box, however, led to a Nicole Robb penalty kick goal in the 83rd minute to give the Raiders the victory.Â
MSOE outshot UT Dallas 16-11 overall and 9-5 on goal. Both teams took three corners.Â
