Comets Upend Crusaders 3-1 for First Win of 2022

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's soccer team picked up its first victory of the season, defeating Dallas 3-1 at the UTD Soccer Complex Wednesday evening. 

The Comets (1-1) netted the first goal in the 23rd minute junior forward Sierra Foster scored from the top right of the box on a fast break with an assist from junior forward Bella Granada. The game remained 1-0 until the 59th minute when the Crusaders (1-1) gained a goal from Alyssa Menacacci on assists by Claire Reed and Britney Zapata.

UTD answered 40 seconds later when Granada tipped in a pass from the left side by freshman midfielder Janae Shaklee. Granada found the back of the net again in the 68th minute after a UD turnover at midfield and pass from Foster, giving the Comets the 3-1 win.

UT Dallas outshot Dallas 12-8 overall and 7-5 on goal. The Comets held a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks and the foul count was 10 for the Crusaders and nine for the host.

- Granada posted a career-high five points on the two goals and an assist. She has scored in both games this season.
- Foster moved her career totals to 12 goals and nine assists.
- Shaklee has recorded assists in back-to-back games.
- Melanie Marchant and Grace Bales also recorded shots on goal.
- Junior defender Peyton Guidry played all 90 minutes.
- Sophomore keeper Jade Press came up with a pair of saves

Dallas Notes
- The goal was the first of the season for Menacacci, who also took three shots on goal.
- Andrea Coppi and Nevaeh Coronado each recorded a shot on goal.
- Elise Valdez played all 90 minutes on the backline for the Crusaders.
- Kaitlyn Vess stopped eight shots in goal.
