Comets Top Lobos To Move to 5-1 in ASC Play

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas volleyball team moved to 5-1 in American Southwest Conference play with a 25-21, 25-13, 26-24 sweep of Sul Ross State Saturday afternoon at the UTD Activity Center.

The Comets (7-4) were down 16-15 in the first set to the Lobos (5-6, 2-4 ASC) before finishing off the game on a 10-5 run. The second set was never in doubt, as the home team hit .464 with 14 kills and only one error, while SRSU hit .069 with seven kills. 

The final set featured 10 ties and six lead changes.At 24-24, UTD picked up kills from Catherine Croft and Abby Jones to win the match.

For the contest, the Comets hit a season-best .292 on 42 kills with 10 aces, six blocks and 36 digs. The Lobos hit .110 with 28 kills, eight aces, five blocks and 32 digs.

UT Dallas Notes
- Senior outside hitter Madison Ball hit a season-best .412 with 10 kills, five assists, seven digs and a pair of blocks.
- Freshman right side Gabi Engels also hit a season-best .368 with nine kills and two blocks.
- Junior setter Izzy Sundquist recorded a career-high four aces and let the Comets with 18 assists.
- Jones led UTD with 11 kills to go with seven digs.
- Freshman middle Lauren Johnson led all players with five blocks.
- Junior libero Rachel Baxter posted 12 digs.
- Croft added eight kills while junior setter Emma Sevening had 16 assists.

Sul Ross State Notes
- Annika Canaba led the Lobos with eight kills to go with 11 assists, three blocks and five digs.
- Libero Faith Herrera recorded nine digs.
- Taryn Griner and Victoria Flores each had seven kills.
- Kamrynn Caruth paced SRSU with 12 assists.
