ABILENE, Texas - The UT Dallas volleyball team continued its hold on first place in the American Southwest Conference by defeating McMurry 27-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23 at Kimbrell Arena Friday night.
The first set featured 16 ties and 11 lead changes with neither team taking more than a two-point lead. The Comets (9-4, 6-1 ASC) eventually took the set 27-25, then went on to take the second frame by six points.
The War Hawks (6-7, 3-4 ASC) bounced back to hold off the Comets 25-23 to force a fourth game. The final set was another nail-biter, with the visitors winning breaking the 23-23 after a McMurry error and a kill by senior
Catherine Croft.
UTD hit .156 with 49 kills, five aces, nine blocks and 74 digs. McMurry recorded a .145 hitting percentage with 48 kills, four aces, six blocks and 83 digs.
UT Dallas Notes
- Senior middle blocker
Karle Lynd hit a career-high .526 on 12 kills and posted four blocks.
- Croft finished with 15 kills on a .371 attack rate, three blocks and nine digs.
- Freshman right side
Gabi Engels recorded nine kills.
- Setter
Emma Sevening had 21 assists and three aces and moved into ninth on the all-time Comet assist list with 778.
- Junior libero
Rachel Baxter led UTD with 19 digs.
- Outside hitters
Abby Jones and
Madison Ball recorded 13 and 11 digs, respectively.
- Sophomore setter
Mikayla Cho recorded her first double-double of the year with 11 assists and 10 digs.
McMurry Notes
- Keetyn Davis led all players with 18 kills to go with 18 digs.
- Addyson Tiffin hit .533 with nine kills.
- Ashlyn Quillan recorded 35 assists, three blocks and 14 digs.
