ALPINE, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team continued its hold on to first place of the American Southwest Conference standings, defeating Sul Ross State 82-68 at the Pete P. Gallego Center Thursday night. The win was UTD's 11th in the last 12 games.
The host Lobos (5-12, 2-8 ASC) scored the first bucket of the game, but the Comets (14-3, 9-1 ASC)Â took the lead for good at the 18:19 mark of the first half on a three-pointer by
Kyle Poerschke. UTD led by as many as 14 in the opening period before taking a 39-33 advantage into the break.
Sul Ross cut their deficit to 58-55 with 11:41 to play before the visitors went on a 16-2 run over the next five minutes to take control of the game with a 17-point lead.
The Comets shot 48 percent (24-for-50) from the floor, 11-for-25 from outside and 23-of-28 at the free throw line. They also had 40 rebounds, 19 assists, two blocks, five steals and 16 turnovers.
The Lobos shot 38.1 percent (24-for-63) overall, 9-for-29 from three-point range and 11-of-15 at the stripe with 30 boards, 19 assists, one block, 10 steals and 16 turnovers.
UTD Notes
- Reigning National Player of the Week Poerschke continued his impressive season with 20 points to go with four rebounds.
- Senior guard
Donovan Souter returned to the lineup, coming off the bench for 11 points.
- Sophomore
Nick Donnelly hit double-digit scoring for the second time this season, scoring 11 points.
- Senior center
Will Isaac posted nine points, 10 rebounds and a pair of blocks.

Hunter Stevens had seven points, a season-high eight rebounds and eight assists.
- Sophomore guard
Luke Kiser also scored seven points with six boards.
