ALPINE, Texas - The UT Dallas women's basketball team defeated Sul Ross State 86-80 in overtime at the Pete P. Gallego Center Thursday night. 

The win avenges the Comets (11-6, 7-3 ASC) previous American Southwest Conference loss to the Lobos (10-9, 6-4 ASC) from December. UTD also moved into third place alone in the league standings.

The visiting Comets had jumped out to a 20-11 lead after the first quarter, but the Lobos took a 31-27 advantage into halftime. Sul Ross led 60-52 with 7:10 left in regulation, but UTD answered with a 15-1 run over the next 4:07 to go up by six with 3:03 remaining.

The Lobos rallied back to regain a 72-69 in the final minute, but a three-pointer by Comet senior guard Jordan Maxwell with 28 seconds left sent the game into overtime. 

UTD scored the first five points of the extra time and never relinquished the lead. The Comets led by as many as nine in overtime.

UTD shot 40.4 percent (23-for-57) from the field, 6-for-15 from outside and 34-for-43 at the line, tying the school record for most free throws made in a game. They also recorded 47 rebounds, 13 assists, six steals and 21 turnovers.

SRSU shot 30.7 percent (23-for-75) overall, 8-for-21 from three-point range and 26-for-34 at the stripe with 47 rebounds, 18 assists, 10 steals and 14 turnovers.

UT Dallas Notes
- Maxwell recorded a career-high 22 points and tied her bests with seven rebounds and six assists. She was 10-for-13 at the free throw line and had three steals.
- Sophomore guard Cierra Trigg netted 18 points, going 8-for-8 at the stripe, and had four rebounds.
- Senior Lauren Fulenwider went 3-for-6 from three-point territory and 6-for-6 at the free throw line en route to 15 points. 
- Senior forward Diane Hurst came off the bench to scored 12 points and grab six boards.
- Blythe Williams led UTD with nine rebounds.
- Freshman center Kyra Samuels tied her season-high with six rebounds.

Sul Ross State Notes
- Marley Rokas posted 18 points and 12 rebounds.
- Kayley Diaz scored 13 points and dished out 10 assists off the bench.
- Emily Bunger also had a double-double of 11 points and 13 boards.
- Vania Hampton had 10 points and six rebounds.
