Comets Suffer First Conference Loss at Hands of Cru

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team fell to Mary Hardin-Baylor 99-93 at the UTD Activity Center Saturday afternoon.

The loss was the first for the Comets (11-3, 6-1) in American Southwest Conference play this season, but they remain in first a tie for first place.

The visiting Cru (10-4, 5-3 ASC) built a 30-18 lead over the first 12:19 of the game. UTD ended the opening period by outscoring UMHB 25-13 to go into the break with a 43-43 tie.

The Comets went up 78-76 with 6:04 left on a fastbreak lay-up by senior guard Hunter Stevens. The Cru answered with a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to take an eight-point lead and control of the game. UTD came within in three points with just under 2:30 remaining, but could not overcome the deficit.

For the game, the Comets shot 50 percent (27-for-54) from the field, 12-for-26 from three-point range and 27-for-36 from the line. They also recorded 30 rebounds, 22 assists, two blocks, four steals and 17 turnovers. It was the seventh time UTD shot 50 percent or better this season.

UMHB shot 57.7 percent (30-for-52) overall, 10-for-22 from outside and 29-of-35 from the stripe with 24 boards, 24 assists, two blocks, nine steals and 12 turnovers.

UT Dallas Notes
- Graduate student Kyle Poerschke scored 17 points to go with three rebounds. Including his four seasons at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, he has 1,024 career points.
- Sophomore guard Nick Donnelly recorded a career-high 17 points, going 5-for-6 from three-point range.
- Freshman forward Austin Page went 6-for-6 from the field, en route to 16 points, tying his season-best. He also pulled down four offensive rebounds.
- Luke Kiser recorded 14 points, six rebounds and seven assists.
- Senior James Curtis had eight points, six boards and four assists.
- Rob Wade came off the bench to add eight points.
- Stevens finished with five points and four assists.

Mary Hardin-Baylor Notes
- Ty Prince led all players with 31 points and three steals. He also had four rebounds and four assists.
- Two-time All-American Josiah Johnson scored 19 points with five boards, six assists, two blocks and two steals. He was 12-for-12 at the free throw line.
- D.J. Kane added 10 points off the bench.
- Gibson Hearne recorded seven points and five assists.
