ROUND ROCK, Texas - The UT Dallas men's soccer team's six-match win streak came to an end with a 3-2 loss to Concordia Texas at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex Thursday night.
The Comets (6-4-2, 2-1 American Southwest Conference) got off to a quick start when
Riley O'Donnell converted a penalty kick in the 12th minute after a hand ball in the box. The Tornados (5-6-1, 3-1 ASC) turned the ball over after the ensuing kickoff and
Hamza Syed found O'Donnell who arched the ball over the keeper's head.Â
Concordia made the game 2-1 in the 28th minute on a goal from from Cameron Burleson. The Tornados took advantage of being man due to a UTD red card and tied the game in the 53rd minute. Jesse Garfias scored the game-winner and his second goal of the game in the 83rd minute after the Comets were down two players due to a second disqualification.
Syed had a chance to tie the game on a penalty kick with 2:40 remaining in the game, but Tornado keeper Brock Hendrickson made a diving save to secure the win.
Concordia outshot UTD 19-7 overall and 11-5 on goal. The Comets led in corner kicks 5-1 and had more fouls, 12-11. A total of 11 yellow cards and two red cards were issued in the game.
UT Dallas Notes
- O'Donnell scored multiple goals for the second straight game and third time this season.
- He also moved into a tie for seventh on the Comet career list with 27 goals and into ninth with 65 points.
- Syed's assist was his third of the year.
