UTD Ties McMurry With Late Senior Day Goal

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw against McMurry at UTD Soccer Field Saturday evening.

Needing a victory or tie to secure the fourth seed in next week's American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament, the Comets (9-1-7, 2-1-5 ASC) managed their fifth 1-1 draw in league play.

The visiting War Hawks (10-4-4, 3-3-3 ASC) got on the board first with a goal by Alexis Lira assisted by Katie Wilson in the 15th minute.

With 4:53 remaining, senior Melanie Marchant got foot on a free kick by freshman Jenna Wilkinson to knot the game and giving the Comets the fourth seed and the right to host a Quarterfinal match on Tuesday.

McMurry outshot UTD 17-12 overall and 9-5 on goal. The War Hawks also led 10-3 in corner kicks with the Comets committing more fouls - 6-5. 

Before the match, UTD honored its 11 seniors - Keely Wallace, Peyton Guidry, Meghan Hollmann, Grace Bales, Sierra Foster, Bella Granada, Ashlynn Thomas, Marchant, Kate Crowe, Hendrikje Bodine and Mariana Gonzalez. 

UT Dallas Notes
- UTD is now 17-2-2 all-time against McMurry.
- The Comets broke the program record for most ties in a season with seven.
- Marchant's goal was her second of the year.
- Wilkinson's assist was her third of the season, which is second on the team.
- Thomas led UTD with four shots.
- Bales, Crowe, Wilkinson and Rylyn Reyes each posted a shot on goal.
- Jade Press had seven saves in goal. 
- Guidry, Bales, Foster and Wilkinson each played 90 minutes.

McMurry Notes
- Emily Holland, the league's leading scorer with 18 goals, did not score despite taking nine shots with five on goal.
- Katie Wilson and Jaelynn Portillo both took a shot on goal.
- Lira had two shots on goal.
- Brooklyn Grove, Wilson, Portillo, Kaylee Worth, McKenna Standifer, Haylie Blakely, Grace Singleton and Lira all played 90 minutes.
