Men's Soccer Knocks Off UMHB to Reach ASC Finals

BELTON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's soccer team defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor 1-0 at the Cru Sports Plex in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Semifinals Thursday evening.

The fourth-seeded Comets (10-6-3) knocked off the top-seeded Cru (9-5-2) to reach the Finals for the 12th time. UTD will face Concordia Texas at 6 p.m. Saturday.

After a scoreless first half, senior Kane Kidwell put the Comets on the board with a goal assisted by senior Vaughn Morgan in the 65th minute.

After the goal, the Comets held off the Cru as the home team took six shots and had four corner kicks opportunities over the final 13 minutes.

UMHB outshot UTD, 11-9; but the Comets held an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Cru led in corner kicks 7-4 while the visitors committed more fouls, 9-4.

UT Dallas has won the ASC championship five times out of 11 appearances in the Finals. This will be their first trip to the championship game since 2019.

- The Comets are now 2-2 against the Cru in the ASC Tournament.
- Kidwell's goal was his fourth of the season and team-leading second game-winner of the year.
- Morgan's assist was the first in his career.
- Junior keeper Michael Hesse recorded one save for his seventh shutout of the season.
- Josh Zemanski, Benny Lube and Luke Harris each took two shots on goal.
- Zemanski, Kayson Marriott, Aiden Currie, Julio De Los Reyes and Cayden Casburn played all 90 minutes while contributing to the shutout.

- Ethan Buchanan took three shots, one on goal.
- Alex Bethke recorded a pair of shots.
- Hayden Owens had seven saves.
- Chase Duhon, Peyton Hoyt, Sawyer Young and Mason Crites all played 90 minutes.

UTD will play in the ASC Championship Finals against Concordia Texas on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Belton. The automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship Tournament is on the line.
