BROWNWOOD, Texas - The UT Dallas women's basketball team opened the American Southwest Conference portion of the schedule with a 54-47 victory over Howard Payne at the Brownwood Coliseum Thursday evening.
The Comets (6-1, 1-0 ASC) never trailed in the game, jumping out to an 11-0 lead, but the Lady Jackets (4-2, 0-1 ASC) kept it close throughout the contest. HPU cut the deficit down to two points in the second quarter before UTD entered halftime with a 20-17 advantage.
The Comets led by as many as 10 points in the second half, but the Lady Jackets stuck around and trailed at 39-36 with 8:02 remaining in the game. UT Dallas answered with a 9-2 run for a 48-38 lead with 3:00 on the clock. The squads exchanged free throws over the final minutes before the Comets escaped with the 54-47 win.
UT Dallas shot 37.3 percent (19-of-51) from the field, 2-for-8 from three-point range and 14-of-25 at the free throw line. They also recorded 46 rebounds, nine assists, 24 turnovers, six blocks and 14 steals.
Howard Payne shot 28.3 percent (17-of-60) overall, 5-of-26 from outside and 8-of-11 at the line with 33 rebounds, nine assists, 19 turnovers, two blocks and nine steals.
UT Dallas Notes
- The Comets had a season-high with 46 rebounds and six blocked shots.

Trystan Clark led UTD with 12 points to go with a block and two steals.

Addy Self posted season-bests of 10 points, seven boards, three blocks and two steals.

Amanda Crowninshield went 7-of-8 at the line for 10 points and pulled down five rebounds with three steals.

Mia Rudin added five points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals off the bench.
