SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The American Southwest Conference champion UT Dallas men's soccer team will begin its seventh trip to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament in San Antonio at Trinity University with a 5 p.m. kickoff of Paul McGinlay Field Saturday, November 11.
The Comets (10-6-4) won their sixth conference title last Saturday with a 6-5 penalty kick decision after a 1-1 draw against Concordia Texas. The title was the fourth for
Jason Hirsch at the helm.Â
The host Tigers (12-2-3) were the runner-up in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament, being eliminated in penalty kicks by St. Thomas after a scoreless tie.Â
The other First Round contest will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday with SCAC champion UST (14-3-1) taking on the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference winner Occidental (13-3-3).
Saturday's victors will meet in the Second Round Sunday night at 7 p.m. That winner will move on to the Sectionals November 17-19 with the Semifinals and Finals being held on December 1-3 in Salem, Va.
The Comets are led offensively by juniors
Cole Morgan (6 goals, 5 assists) and
Riley O'Donnell (6 goals, 4 assists). Seniors
Luke Deats follows with five goals and fellow senior
Kane Kidwell has four goals and two assists.
Hamza Syed and
Luke Harris also have four assists this season.
ASC Tournament Most Valuable Player
Kayson Marriott has started all 20 games at center back and has a goal and an assist while contributing to seven shutouts.
Aiden Currie,
Josh Zemanski and
Cayden Casburn also lead the defensive effort for the Comets. Junior
Michael Hesse has made 53 saves and recorded seven shutouts in goal with a 71.6 save percentage.
UTD is 1-6 all-time and 0-5 against Trinity in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers defeated the Comets 4-1 on September 8 of this season in San Antonio.
