Comets Defeat Lobos 91-73

ALPINE, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team defeated Sul Ross State 91-73 at the Gallego Center Saturday afternoon.

The Comets (5-2) led the entire contest, building a 21-point lead late in the first half before a Lobo (5-2) three-pointer made the game 53-35 at the halftime. UTD continued the attack, leading by 27 early in the second period. SRSU cut the lead down to nine points with 8:20 left before the Comets extended it back to 22 points with a 14-1 run before coming out with the 18-point victory.

UTD shot a season-best 50 percent (28-for-56) from the field, 11-for-25 from three-point territory and 24-of-30 at the line. They also recorded 38 rebounds, 15 assists, 10 turnovers and five blocks.

The Lobos shot 39.6 percent (21-for-53) from the field, 9-for-31 from outside and 22-of-34 at the line with 32 boards, 17 assists, 14 turnovers, one bock and five steals.

UT Dallas Notes
- The Comets set or tied a their season-bests win field goal percentage, three-point field goals made, three-point field goal percentage, free throws made, free throws attempted and free throw percentage.
- Guard Donovan Souter scored 23 points marking his sixth consecutive 20+-point performance. He was 8-for-16 from the field and 4-for-11 from outside.
- Junior Nick Donnelly matched his career-high 23 points, going 5-for-9 from three-point range. 
- Luke Kiser posted 14 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals.
- Freshman forward Jordan Balderaz had nine points and seven rebounds with a steal.
- Junior center Tyler Stephenson scored a career-high five points.
- Franklin Onyeme and Matthew Soto each scored five points.

Sul Ross State Notes
- Trey Nelson and Gabe Sanchez led the Lobos with 18 points each.
- Omar Ibarra had 13 points and six rebounds off the bench.
- Tyler Jackson also had 13 points and was 7-of-8 at the line.
- Zyrin Brantley had five points and dished out seven assists.
