RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's basketball team celebrated senior day by defeating East Texas Baptist 52-51 at the UTD Activity Center in front of a Homecoming crowd of 681 fans.
With the win, the Comets (16-9, 12-6 ASC) earned the fourth seed for the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament and will host a Quarterfinal game against fifth-seeded Sul Ross State on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The winner will head to the semifinals on Friday at regular season champion Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, Texas.

The Comets led the Tigers (19-6, 13-5 ASC), who will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament, 12-10 at the end of the first quarter. ETBUÂ controlled the second quarter and led 26-21 going into halftime. UTD scored the first nine points of the third quarter to go up 30-26 but the squads were tied at 37-37 headed into the final period.
The Comets went on a 10-2 run to open the quarter, but the Tigers answered 10-2 run of their own to knot the game at 49-49 with just under four minutes to play. The teams exchanged jumpers for a 51-51 tie at the 1:49 mark.
The UTD defense forced a turnover with 18 seconds left and ETBU fouled senior guard
Jordan Maxwell with 8.7 ticks remaining. The El Paso, Texas native made the first, but the Tigers rebounded the second and took a time out. The visitors from Marshall could not get a shot off before time expired and the Comets celebrated the one-point win.
The Comets shot 41.2 percent (21-for-51) from the field, 4-for-16 from three-point range and were 6-for-11 at the line. They also had 30 rebounds, 13 assists, two steals and 12 turnovers.
The Tigers were held to 39.1 percent (18-for-46) shooting, 4-for-11 from outside and 11-for-15 at the line with 34 boards, 12 assists, one block, seven steals and 14 turnovers.

Maddie Edler were responsible for 34 points and were honored after the game.
- Maxwell led the Comets with 15 points and dished out three assists.
- Hurst was also in double-digits with 10 points to go with three rebounds and three assists.Â
- Fulenwider scored six points and had four assists. Edler finished with a three-pointer made.
