RICHARDSON, Texas - The #24 UT Dallas women's tennis team defeated Hardin-Simmons 6-3 at the UTD Tennis Courts Saturday afternoon in a match-up of the divisional favorites of the American Southwest Conference.
The Comets (3-0) led the Cowgirls (2-4) 2-1 after doubles. The top tandem of
Saumya Vedula and
Rebecca Jackson needed a tiebreaker to defeat Jacy Smith and Lauren Schaeffer 8-7 (7-2). Sophomore
Elyssa Ducret and
Megan Zeng also won at number two with an 8-3 decision over Laurel Coleman and Jonnah Smith.
UTD also took the final four spots in singles. Jackson defeated Schaeffer 6-4, 6-1 at number three and Ducret topped Skylar Rust 6-1, 6-1 in the fourth spot. At number five, Zeng won over Jonnah Smith 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 and
Tisha Nakakes-Nguyen defeated Taja Lawrence 6-4, 6-2 in the sixth flight.
On the year, Ducret, Jackson and Zeng are now 3-0 in singles while Ducret/Zeng and Jackson/Vedula are 3-0 in doubles.
The Comets will take on Harding at home on Sunday at 11 a.m.
