BELTON, Texas - The 2022-23 campaign came to an end for the UT Dallas men's basketball, falling to East Texas Baptist 74-71 in the American Southwest Conference Championship Semifinals at the Mayborn Campus Center Friday night.
The third-seeded Tigers (22-5) led almost the entire game, however the second-seeded Comets (20-6) never trailed by more than nine points. ETBU lead 43-38 at halftime.
UTD battled to cut the deficit to 68-67 with just over a minute left. Tiger forward Darry Moore scored the next four points but a
Hunter Stevens jump shot with 15 seconds left made the game 72-69. Moore connected on two more free throws with six seconds left to go up by five. A basket by sophomore guard
Nick Donnelly at the buzzer made the final deficit three points.
The Comets shot 41.7 percent (25-for-60) from the field, 9-for-24 from outside and 12-of-17 at the free throw line. They also had 37 rebounds, 17 assists, two blocks, six steals and 12 turnovers.
ETBU shot 45.2 percent (28-of-62) overall, 7-for-19 from three-point range and 11-of-17 at the stripe with 39 boards, 17 assists, one block, seven steals and 11 turnovers.
The game was the final for four UTD seniors - Stevens,
James Curtis,
Kyle Poerschke and
Will Isaac.
UT Dallas Notes
- Stevens led the Comets with 17 points and six rebounds with two assists and a blocked shot. He ends his career with 326 assists, ranking fourth in UTD history.
- Poerschke scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounds with three assists and a steal.
- Guard
Donovan Souter came off the bench to score 14 points and come down with five rebounds.
- Isaac recorded seven points and four boards. He finishes ranking fourth in UTD history with 67 career blocked shots.
- Sophomore forward
Rob Wade had five points and a steal.

East Texas Baptist Notes
- Moore led ETBUÂ with 22 points and had eight rebounds.
- Kevin Charles added 17 points and six boards.
- Guard Aaron Gregg had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds and dished out eight assists.
- Ryan Elzy was 5-for-5 shooting for 11 points.
- Jaden Conner added seven points and seven rebounds off the bench.
- The Tigers advanced to Saturday's ASC Championship Tournament Finals.
