RICHARDSON, Texas - The #28 UT Dallas women's tennis team suffered its first loss to a Division III program of the year, falling to Cal Lutheran 5-4 at the UTD Tennis Courts Monday.
The Comets (7-4) were down 2-1 after doubles against the Regals (6-1). Juniors
Saumya Vedula and
Rebecca Jackson earned the point for UTD with an 8-4 win over Reya Maestas and Carmen Bufkin at number one.
Vedula won her second singles match against Luisa Garcia 6-3, 6-2 and Jackson improved to 9-2 on the season with a 6-0, 6-0 number three victory over Maestas. Sophomore
Megan Zeng also won 6-0, 6-0 in the fifth flight over Henna Levanen for UTD's fourth point.
CLU won number three doubles in a tiebreaker and six singles in three sets. The final point was up for grabs at number where Regal Gerda Jucys pulled out a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory against sophomore
Elyssa Ducret.
The Comets will play in an exhibition at Tyler Junior College on Friday before taking on Concordia Texas in Waco on Saturday.
