WACO, Texas - The #28 UT Dallas women's tennis team defeated Concordia Texas 9-0 at the Waco Regional Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.
The Comets (8-4) started with all three doubles victories over the Tornados (11-2). Junior tandem
Saumya Vedula and
Rebecca Jackson moved to 10-2 on the season by defeating Isabella Wiik and Kaitlin Stevens 8-0 at number one. Sophomores
Elyssa Ducret and
Megan Zeng were an 8-6 victor over Kayla Pena and Isabella Cepeda and
Suzuka Nishino and
Tisha Nakakes-Nguyen won at three 8-4 against Claire Austin and Trinity Klamecki.
UTD then followed with all six singles wins. Ducret, Zeng and Nakakes-Nguyen all won easily at four, five and six, respectively
Vedula earned a second flight win by retirement after taking the first set 6-1. Nishino, who is #10 in the nation, defeated Pena 6-3, 6-4 at number one. Jackson became the first Comet to reach 10 wins on the season, defeating Cepeda 5-7, 6-3, 10-7 at number three.
The Comets will be back in action when they face #18 Southwestern (Texas) in Georgetown, Texas on Saturday, April 1.
