GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The #37 UT Dallas women's tennis went on the road and suffered a 6-3 loss to #23 Southwestern (Texas) in Georgetown Saturday afternoon.
The Comets (8-5) started off with 2-1 lead after doubles. The number one tandem of
Saumya Vedula and
Rebecca Jackson improved to 11-2 on the year by topping Nina Mitrofanova and Lydia Lee 8-4.
Elyssa Ducret and
Megan Zeng needed a tiebreaker to defeat Alli Ziehm and Taylor Despriet 8-7 (7-4) at number two.
The host Pirates (14-3) took the match by winning four singles points. UTD's lone singles victory came at the top spot, where
Suzuka Nishino, ranked #6 in the West Region, defeated Mitrofanova, #11 in the West, 6-4, 6-1. With the win, Nishino moved into a tie for fourth place in Comet career duel wins with 33.
Ducret had a close loss to Despriet at number four, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.
UTD will travel to #14 Trinity (Texas) in San Antonio for a 3 p.m. match Sunday.
