ABILENE, Texas - The UT Dallas women's tennis team defeated Concordia Texas 5-0 in the American Southwest Conference Championship Semifinals Friday morning to advance to the Finals for the fifth consecutive time.
Dating back to 2018 and skipping 2020 due to COVID, the Comets (11-6) have made the Finals every year and have won the last three titles.
UTD, the top seed from the East Division, took the three doubles matches from the Tornados (13-5), the second seed out of the West, to open the match.Â
Saumya Vedula and
Rebecca Jackson won their 14th match of the year at number one, defeating Isabella Wiik and Kaitlin Stevens 8-2.
Elyssa Ducret and
Megan Zeng squaked out an 8-7 (7-5) victory over Kayla Pena and Isabella Cepeda in the second spot and
Suzuka Nishino and
Tisha Nakakes-Nguyen won 8-3 against Trinity Klamecki and Claire Austin at number three.
The Comets claimed team win when Zeng defeated Stevens 6-0, 6-1 at number five singles and Nakakes-Nguyen won against Austin 6-2, 6-4.
UTD will battle host Hardin-Simmons, the top seed from the West, Saturday at 1 p.m.
