Comets Open Season with Scoreless Draw

NORTON, Mass. - The UT Dallas men's soccer team started 2023 with a 0-0 tied against Wheaton (Mass.) at Keefe Stadium Friday afternoon.

The Comets outshot the host Lyons 7-5, but Wheaton recorded the only shot on goal in the contest. Both teams took three corner kicks and the Lyons led in fouls 15-7.

UTD took six shots in the second half, including the final 
attempt of the game in the 87th minute which went high.

UT Dallas Notes
- The shutout was the 86th under 11th-year head coach Jason Hirsch.
- Friday's game was the eighth season-opening shutout in program history.
- Junior keeper Michael Hesse posted one save for his fourth career blanking.
- Senior Kane Kidwell led the Comets with two shots.
- Riley O'Donnell, Benny Lube, Joe Ruedi, Luke Deats and Hamza Syed each took one shot.
- Kayson Marriott, Devin Hammel and Kaleem Shabout all logged 90 minutes to led the defensive effort.

Wheaton Notes
- Luke Strange led all players with three shots.
- Robert Lloyd had the game's only shot on goal.
- Ben Kane also took a shot.
- Ethan Alfano and Ryan Bell played all 90 minutes.
