Comets Top Colorado College For First Win of 2023

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's soccer team earned its first victory of 2023, defeating Colorado College 2-1 at the UTD Soccer Field Sunday afternoon.

The Comets (1-3-2) scored in the fifth minute when Riley O'Donnell bounced off two Tigers (3-3-1) and sent a cross from the deep left side of the box that went off of a charging Kane Kidwell's right foot and up into net. 

With a second left in the opening period, senior forward Luke Deats scored what proved to be the game-winner after knocking in a pass from freshman Alex Kalakanis.

CC's only goal came in the 66th minute when Jack Hilliard converted a penalty kick.

The Tigers outshot the Comets 18-9 overall and 7-4 on goal. Colorado also led in corner kicks 5-3 and committed more fouls, 16-12. Six yellow cards were issued in the game.

UT Dallas Notes
- UTD improves to 5-2 all time against Colorado College.
- Deats' goal was the fourth of his career and second game-winner.
- Kidwell scored for the 11th time in his career.
- O'Donnell posted the ninth assist during his tenure.
- The assist was the first for Kalakanis.
- Junior keeper Michael Hesse recorded a career-high six saves.
- Kaleem Shabout played all 90 minutes at center back.

Colorado College Notes
- Alexander Ward and Connor Webster each took two shots on goal.
- Hilliard, Rex Karjian and Will Bavier recorded one shot on goal.
- Jasper Broad stopped two shots in goal.
