Men's Soccer Wins Third Straight, Blanks 'Roos

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's soccer team picked up its third consecutive win and second straight shutout as they defeated Austin 3-0 Saturday night at UTD Soccer Field.

After a scoreless first half, the Comets (3-3-2) scored just 2:14 into the second period when sophomore Hamza Syed picked off a ball from a Kangaroo (5-3) defender and blasted it into the net off his left foot.

In the 53rd minute, Leo Castro found Aiden Currie with a pass, who scored from the right side of the box through AC traffic to give UTD a 2-0 advantage. Freshman Alex Kalakanis connected with Cole Morgan for the final score in the 70th minute.

The Comets outshot the 'Roos 22-5 overall and 7-1 on goal. The Comets led in corner kicks 4-2 and in fouls, 13-12. Five total yellow cards were issued.

- UTD improves to 16-3-4 with 10 shutouts all-time against Austin.
- Sayed's goal was his first of the season and second of his career.
- Currie recorded a goal for the first time in his career.
- Morgan scored for the second straight game and the third time this season, which leads the team.
- Kalakanis posted his second assist of the year.
- Castro's assist was his first of the year and sixth of his career.
- Hesse had one save for his third shutout of the year and sixth of his career.

- Everardo Garza had four saves for the 'Roos.
- Daniel Gomez took the only shot on goal for AC.
