RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team suffered a 66-65 loss to Sul Ross State at the UTD Activity Center Thursday night.
The visiting Lobos (9-8) led 11-9 in the first seven minutes before the Comets (9-7) went on a 19-3 run to go up 28-14 with 5:26 remaining in the first period. Sul Ross answered with an 11-1 rally to make the game 29-25 in UTD's favor at halftime.
The Comets led 37-29 after the first six minutes of the second period, but the Lobos went on a 10-0 run to go up 39-37 at the 11:45 mark. UTD tied it back up at 39-39 with a basket from sophomore center
Austin Page.
From that point, the teams exchanged leads nine times with seven times. A three-pointer by SRSU's Gabe Sanchez with 1:01 remaining put them up 64-61. Another lay-up and a pair of free throws from Page put the Comets up 65-64 with 28 seconds remaining. Sanchez hit the game-winning shot with 0.8 seconds left for the one-point win.
For the game, the Comets shot 30.6 percent (19-for-62) from the field, 6-for-24 from three-point range and 21-of-28 at the line. They also had 42 rebounds, 12 assists, 16 turnovers, three blocks and 13 steals.
The Lobos shot 47.1 percent (24-51) overall, including 62.5 percent (15-for-24) in the second half. They were also 6-for-16 from outside and 12-of-16 at the free throw line with 34 rebounds, 22 assists, 19 turnovers, seven blocks and 12 steals.
UT Dallas Notes
- The Comets recorded a season-high 13 steals.

Donovan Souter went 8-for-8 at the free throw line and led UTD with 18 points.
- Page finished with 17 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

Thibaut Tagnon tied his season-best with 10 points.
- Freshman Jordan Balderz scored eight points with 12 rebounds and a season-best four assists.
