RICHARDSON, Texas - The 2024 UT Dallas softball team will play its final season in the American Southwest Conference and look to go out on a high note.
Under head coach
Kelly Archer, entering his third season, the Comets went 24-18 overall last season and 15-12 in league play for their second consecutive winning season. This year's team is predicted to finish sixth in the ASC Preseason Poll as voted on by the conference's head coaches and directors of media relations.
Archer returns 19 letterwinners, including six starters and two pitchers.UTD is coming off its 11th appearance in the ASC Championship Tournament.
Three Comets were named to the ASC Preseason Players to Watch List - sophomore third baseman
Addison Caddell, sophomore outfielder
Claire Pollack and freshman pitcher
Allison Koch. Cadell was an All-ASC Third Team selection as a freshman, hitting .350 with 41 hits, 20 runs, 13 doubles, two home runs, 23 RBI and four stolen bases. Pollack was also a Third Team pick a year ago, hitting .344 on 44 hits, 28 runs, eight doubles, one triple, four homers, 19 RBI and six stolen bases. Koch, from Colleyille, Texas, was a two-time All-District First Team selection for Grapevine High School.
Also returning are All-ASC Second Team utility player
Marisa Mejia, who hit .367 at the plate and was 5-2 with two saves and 1.88 earned run average in the circle, and Third Team outfielder
Megan Cavazos, who hit .353 with 30 hits, 14 runs, six doubles, eight RBI and two steals. Other returning starters include
Cole Johnson,
Erin Ledesma and
Riley Westmoreland. McKenzie Cutbirch also returns to the circle.
The 2024 campaign opens at home on Saturday, February 17 with a 3 p.m. double-header against Ottawa (Kan.), followed by NCAA Division III Tournament qualifiers Texas Lutheran and St. Thomas (Texas) at UTD Softball Field on February 24 and 25, respectively. The Comets open league play with McMurry on March 1. UTD will also have non-conference games at Dallas on March 5 and compete in the Tucson Invitational games versus Sewanee, Franklin & Marshall, Dickinson, Hartford and Salve Regina March 13-15.
The 2024 ASC Championship Tournament will be May 9-11 with the regular season champion hosting.
