RICHARDSON, Texas - In a tale of two halves, the UT Dallas men's soccer team outlasted East Texas Baptist for a 2-1 victory at the UTD Soccer Field Thursday night.
The Comets (7-1-2) picked up the first goal just 2:02 into the contest.
Kaleem Shabout bulleted the ball downfield to
Benny Lube who beat the Tigers' (6-5-1) keeper to the right in a one-on-one clash.
After a deflection on a corner kick, senior midfielder
Vaughn Morgan headed in a pass from the right of the box by
Carson Burden with 36 seconds left in the first period to give the home team a 2-0 advantage.
UTD outshot ETBU 9-3 overall and 6-1 on goal in the first period.
The Tigers cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 51st minute on a Dylan Garcia goal on an assist from Regan Trojacek. Less than 30 seconds later, the Comets found themselves a man down after a red card, leaving them short a player for the final 49 minutes of the contest.
ETBU recorded tipped the shot count for a 10-2 lead in the second half and 5-1 on target. Keeper
Anthony Alston recorded four saves in the period as UTD held on for the victory.
The Tigers led 13-11 in total shots, but the Comets had a 7-6 lead in shots on goal. UTD also recorded more corner kicks - 9-8.
UT Dallas Notes
- Lube's goal was his third of the year and sixth of his career.
- Shabout posted his second assist of the season and fourth in his career.
- Morgan came up with his second career goal and first game-winner.
