Comets Come Away with 2-1 Win Over Lady Jackets

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The UT Dallas women's soccer team picked up a 2-1 victory over Howard Payne at Citizens National Bank Field Thursday evening. 

The Comets (4-4) opened the scoring just 5:17 into the game. Sophomore Kalyn Brewer controlled the ball deep in the Lady Jackets' (5-5-1) territory and flicked a pass to Chelsea Vilca, who beat the keeper to the right of the goal. 

UTD went up 2-0 in the 19th minute when freshman Amelia Griffin blasted a high-arcing shot over the HPU keeper's head from the right side. 

HPU got on the board in the 60th minute when Brenna Douthit converted a penalty kick.

The Comets outshot the Lady Jackets 13-8 overall and 9-3 on goal. Both teams took two corner kicks.

UT Dallas Notes
- Vilca recorded her fourth goal of the season and is tied for the team lead. She took four shots, three on target.
- Griffin's goal, which proved to be the game-winner, was the first in her career.
- Brewer came up with her first assist as a Comet.
- Jules Chavez took two shots on goal.
- Layla Rangel, Claire O'Sullivan and Faith Autery each had a shot on goal.
- Jade Press stopped a pair of shots as the goalkeeper.
- Griffin, Lyla Nielsen, Rowen Hughes and Kaley Robison each logged 90 minutes.

Howard Payne Notes
- Douthit's goal was her third of the season. She took three shots, two on goal.
- Kiana Chastain also had a shot on goal.
- Goalkeeper Landry Combs recorded seven saves.
- Tatum Mercer and Kendall Watkins played all 90 minutes.
