Vilca's Haul Sparks Comets to 6-1 Win

LONGVIEW, Texas - Junior forward Chelsea Vilca recorded four goals and an assist as the UT Dallas women's soccer team defeated LeTourneau 6-1 at the LETU Soccer Field Thursday evening.

Her performance was the ninth with four goals or more in game in program history. 

The Comets (7-7-1) opening the scoring when Vilca assisted freshman Amelia Griffin's goal in the seventh minute. Vilca then found the net in the 12th and 14th minutes with Jules Chavez assisting both. 

The Hickory Creek, Texas native made it 4-0 with a hat trick score in the 38th minute on a pass from Griffin. Vilca struck again in the 61st minute.

The YellowJackets (1-14-1) got on the board in the 75th minute when Natalie Alvarado's pass found Chanel Kemball-Cook. Sophomore Madison Carney added the final goal in the 89th minute, assisted by Layla Rangel.

UTD outshot LeTourneau 24-10 overall and 17-7 on target. 

UT Dallas Notes
- Vilca's four-goal performance was the first for a Comet since 2010.
- She took eight shots, seven on goal and now has a team-leading nine goal on the year.
- Griffin now has three goals and two assists on the season.
- With her two assists, Chavez is tied for the team lead with four.
- Carney's goal was the first of her career.
- Rangel now has two assists on the season.
- Senior goalkeeper Jade Press recorded six saves.
- Senior midfielder Claire O'Sullivan played all 90 minutes.

LeTourneau Notes
- Kemball-Cook took four shots on target and recorded her fifth goal of the year.
- Shelby Smith, Camryn Robbins and Natalie Alvarado each took one shot on goal.
- Abi King recorded six saves in the first half, while Aleena Tuers had five in the second.

UT Dallas will play its final game of the season at East Texas Baptist in Marshall at 5 p.m. Saturday.
