Comets Scorch Nets in 15-Point Win Over Rangers

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team recorded one of the best shooting performances in program history as they defeated Regis (Colo.) 86-71 at the UTD Activity Center Friday night.

The Comets (2-1) went 13-for-20 from three-point range for a 65 percent rate - the second-best percentage in UTD history. They also shot 60.8 percent from the field, going 31-of-51, for the 10th-best percentage.

UTD made its first 11 shots, including six from outside, to build a 31-16 lead in the first 10:16 of the game. The Rangers (1-2), the first of five NCAA Division II opponents for the Comets, ended the half down 45-42. RU shot 70.8 percent (17-for-24) from the field in the opening period.

The Rangers ended up with a 55-53 lead with 14:15 left in the game. A three-pointer by Comet forward AJ Carter 10 seconds later gave the home team the lead for good. UTD led by as many as 19 before leaving with the 15-point win.

UTD continued its hot shooting in the second period, making 57.7 percent (15-of-26) of their shots, while Regis cooled off at 31 percent (9-of-29) and went 0-for-12 from three-point territory.

The Comets won the rebound battle 29-21 and posted 23 assists, 14 turnovers, five blocks and eight steals. The Rangers recorded 11 assists, 13 turnovers, three blocks and nine steals.

UT Dallas Notes
- Senior guard Nick Donnelly led the Comets with 16 points, going 4-for-6 from outside. He also dished out three assists.
- Carter came off the bench for a career-high 13 points, going 4-for-4 from three-point range. He grabbed four rebounds and posted a pair of steals.
- Freshman guard Peyton Dulin scored 12 points with four boards, two steals and a block.
- Sophomore forward Jordan Balderaz added 11 points, three assists and three steals.
- Matthew Soto dished out four assists and scored 10 points.
- Junior Center Austin Page added nine points.
- Zach Spitzer blocked two shots for the second time this season.

Regis Notes
- Eddy Egun led all players with 25 points and had three steals.
- Chase Mayon Harmon had 15 points and three steals.
- Jalen Brown scored 11 points off the bench.
- Chigozie Achara recorded 10 points and five rebounds.
- Kobe Sanders dished out five assists.
