DENTON, Texas - The UT Dallas volleyball team ended the 2024 campaign with a three-set victory over Texas Woman's at Kitty Magee Arena Friday night. The Comets (9-9) defeated the future conference rival Pioneers (18-6) 12-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20.
TWU, who currently sits in fourth place in the Lone Star Conference, took the first set easily, hitting .250 with UTD being in the negative. The Comets turned things around in the second set, leading almost the entire frame.
The Pioneers led 16-11 in the third, but the Comets answered with a 7-2 run to knot it up at 18 each. The teams traded leads and ties until UTD pulled away with the two-point set win.
In the final game, the squads locked up for 13 ties and eight lead changes early. tied at 15-15, the Comets ended the match with a 10-5 rally. UTD saved their best offensive output of for the final set, hitting .317 on 16 kills and only three errors.
For the match, the Comets hit .133 with 46 kills, seven aces, six blocks and 74 digs. The Pioneers hit .176 overall on 51 kills, two aces, six blocks and 80 digs.
UT Dallas Notes
- Sophomore
Bailey Schievelbein led UTD with a season-best 17 kills and 12 digs for her first double-double of the year. She also hit .333.
- Freshman outside hitter
Alina Strickler came up with her 10th double-double of the season with 11 kills and 13 digs. She also posted a pair of blocks.
- Middle blocker
Laura See posted six kills and three blocks. She ended the season with the third-best hitting percentage in school history at .374.
- Freshman
Averi Frazier recorded 21 assists, two aces and seven digs in her first match at setter.
- Sophomore setter
Sydney Sabin added 19 assists, two aces and nine digs.
- Junior
Rockie Collier posted three total blocks.
- Sophomore liberoÂ
Mari Hernandez came up with 25 digs. She had a 5.75 digs per set average on the year, ranking second in program history.Â
Texas Woman's Notes
- Malia Viernes paced the Pioneers with 12 kills and 17 digs.
- Erin Jones hit .304 with 10 kills and three blocks.
- Kady Hansen added nine kills.
- Grace Reynolds had 25 assists and eight digs, while Kiana Reed recorded 20 assists and 13 digs.
- Luna Franca led TWU with 20 digs.
- Kenn Jean-Louis posted four blocks.
