RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team opened the 2024-25 regular season at the Activity Center Saturday afternoon with a 77-65 loss to UNT Dallas.
The visiting Trailblazers (1-1) built up a 27-16 lead in the first half which the Comets (0-1) answered 10-2 run to make the game 29-26 with 2:11 remaining. UNTD took a 35-26 advantage into the break.
The Trailblazers led the entire second half with the home team cutting the deficit to 57-53 at the 8:55 mark. UNTD ended the game outscoring UTD 20-12 for the 12 point win.
The Comets shot 36.7 percent (22-for-60) from the field, 8-of-23 from three-point territory and 13-of-18 at the free throw line. They also recorded 37 rebounds, 17 assists, 16 turnovers, three blocks and eight steals.
The Trailblazers shot 45 percent (27-of-69) overall, 4-for-14 from outside and 19-of-29 at the stripe with 44 boards, 15 assists, 11 turnovers, five blocks and 12 steals.
UT Dallas Notes
- Sophomore guard
Matthew Soto scored a carer-high 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting overall. He was also 5-for-8 from outside and 5-for-5 from the line.
- Junior center
Austin Page posted 21 points with seven rebounds, two assists and a block.
- Forward
Jordan Balderaz was just shy of a double-double, coming up with nine points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Peyton Dulin had six points, six boards and three steals.

Kris White had a pair of assists and three steals.
- Sophomore forward
Zach Spitzer blocked two shots.
UNT Dallas Notes
- Greg Crawford led UNTD with 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
- Darion Jones scored 21 points with 11 rebounds. He also went 8-for-9 at the free throw line.
- Sergio McClain added 14 points and three blocks.
- Vernon Johnson came up with 11 points, four assists and four steals.
Up Next
The Comets will play at Arlington Baptist at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
