MARSHALL, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team wrapped the American Southwest Conference schedule as co-regular season champions with a 16-9 overall record and 12-4 mark in league play.
They nearly completed a giant comeback effort for the second time this week as they erased a 17-point deficit with 15:59 left before ultimately losing 68-66 to East Texas Baptist at Ornelas Gymnasium Saturday.
Despite the loss, the Comets will be the #2 seed in next week's ASC Championship Tournament in Abilene, Texas and receive a bye to Friday's Semifinals where they will face the winner of #3 LeTourneau and #6 Concordia Texas at 5 p.m.
In Saturday's game, the host Tigers (15-10, 10-6 ASC) built up a 40-28 advantage by halftime. Being down 49-32, the Comets chipped away at the lead with a 25-8 run over the next 12 minutes.

Luke Kiser basket made the game 64-64 with 43 seconds left, but ETBU regained the lead 21 seconds later on a pair of Darry Moore free throws.
Austin Page tied it back up with nine seconds left, but Moore hit the game-winner with 1.7 remaining on the clock.
The Comets shot 53.2 percent (25-for-47) from the field, 2-for-11 from three-point range and 14-of-26 from the line. They also recorded 26 rebounds, 11 assists, 18 turnovers, two blocks and 10 steals.
The Tigers shot 45.3 percent overall (24-for-53), 4-for-11 from outside and 16-of-20 at the line with 25 rebounds, 11 assists, 16 turnovers, four blocks and 12 steals.
UT Dallas Notes
