RICHARDSON, Texas - The #35 UT Dallas women's tennis team fell just short against #28 Southwestern (Texas) by the score of 5-4 in a battle of regional powerhouses at the UTD Tennis Courts on Saturday.
The Comets (1-1) got off to a 2-1 after doubles play. Seniors
Rebecca Jackson and
Saumya Vedula took the top spot 8-5 over Mary Young and Lydia Lee, while juniors
Elyssa Ducret and
Megan Zeng defeated Erika Synoski and Sydney Wahl 8-6 at #2.
The Pirates (3-0) rebounded by winning four of the singles match-ups. UTD picked up points from freshman
Reika Nagai at #4 and Zeng at #5. Negai won her collegiate duel debut against Hattie Berend 6-3, 6-1. Zeng topped Daryl Locke 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
With her victory, Jackson moved into a tie for second place with Rachel Houston on UTD's career doubles wins list with 39. Vedula is just behind in fourth place at 38.Â
The Comets will take on UT Arlington on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Arlington Tennis Center.
