RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team defeated Hardin-Simmons 76-67 Saturday at the UTD Activity Center to take sole possession of first place in the American Southwest Conference standings.
Tied for first entering the contest, the Comets (14-7, 10-2 ASC) and Cowboys (16-5, 9-3 ASC) were evenly matched for majority of the game as they were tied 10 times and exchanged the lead on 12 occasions. HSU held a 31-30 advantage at the end of the first half.
The Cowboys took a 48-41 with 11:42 remaining, but the Comets went on a 13-2 run over the next five and a half minutes to capture the lead for good. HSU came as close as 62-59 with 2:50 left, but UTD went 9-for-10 at the free throw line to go with a
Donovan Souter three-pointer and
Austin Page fastbreak dunk in the final minutes of the game to win by nine.
The Comets shot 33.8 percent (23-for-68) from the field, 6-for-22 from outside and 24-of-31 at the free throw line to go with 50 rebounds, 19 assists, 12 turnovers, four blocks and six steals.
The Cowboys shot 27.9 percent (17-for-61) overall, 5-for-27 from three-point range and 28-of-36 at the stripe with 46 rebounds, 11 assists, 16 turnovers, 12 blocks and seven steals.
UT Dallas Notes
- The Comets tied up the all-time series with the Cowboys 19-19.
- Souter made five three-pointers and scored 26 points while grabbing eight rebounds.

Rob Wade netted 13 points, going 6-for-9, with seven rebounds and three assists.
- Guard
Luke Kiser posted 12 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals for his second consecutive double-double.
- Page finished with eight points, five boards and two blocks.
