RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team lost to Mary Hardin-Baylor 99-87 in American Southwest Conference play at the UTD Activity Center Thursday night.
Despite the loss, the Comets (14-8, 10-3 ASC) remain in a tie with Hardin-Simmons for the top spot in the league standings with three games to play. The top two seeds advance directly to the ASC Championship Semifinals with the regular season champion hosting the semis and final on February 23-24.
The visiting Cru (12-9, 7-6 ASC) shot 61.8 percent (21-for-34) from the field and 7-for-11 from three-point territory in the first half, building a 57-29 lead in the first half.
With UMHB up 75-50 with 11:53 to play, UTD chipped away at the with a 29-10 rally over the next 6:34, cutting the deficit to just six points. The Cru thwarted the Comets' comeback efforts, ending the game on a 14-8 run, earning the 12-point win. UT Dallas outscored UMHB 58-42 in the second period.
The Comets shot 44.3 percent (31-for-70) overall, including 58.8 percent (20-for-34) in the second half. They were also 13-of-34 from three-point range and 10-for-16 at the line with 32 rebounds, 23 assists, 12 turnovers, five blocks and 11 steals.
The Cru shot 52.2 percent (36-for-69) for the game, 12-of-23 from outside and 15-of-17 at the free throw line to go with 43 rebounds, 28 assists, 17 turnovers, five blocks and 10 steals.
UT Dallas Notes
- The Comets made a season-high 13 three-pointers.
- Senior guard
Donovan Souter scored 28 points. He broke the school record with 17 three-point attempts in the game, hitting seven.
- Sophomore
Austin Page scored 21 points with six rebounds and a block.
- Guard
Nick Donnelly recorded eight points with two steals.

- Junior forward
Rob Wade had seven points, seven rebounds, two blocks and a career-high four steals.
- Freshman
Jordan Balderaz also grabbed seven rebounds with a season-best five assists.

Matthew Soto scored six points, hitting a pair of threes.
- Junior
Thibaut Tagnon had five points, five assists and two steals.
Mary Hardin-Baylor Notes
- Senior guard Josiah Johnson netted 35 points to go with nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks and three assists. He became the all-time leading scorer in ASC history with 2,394 career points.
- Eli Beard was 12-for-18 from the field, scoring 33 points.
- Josh Goings had 21 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals.
- That trio was responsible for 89 of the Cru's 99 points.
- Connor Zamiara had seven rebounds and five assists.
- Zachary Engels added four points, five boards and six assists off the bench.
