ARLINGTON, Texas – The #35 UT Dallas women's tennis team opened the 2024 season with a 5-1 victory over Texas Wesleyan at the Arlington Tennis Center Wednesday afternoon.
The Comets (1-0) picked up the doubles point with senior tandem
Rebecca Jackson and
Saumya Vedula winning over Zeynep Ege and Paulina Hudson 7-5 at number one and juniors
Elyssa Ducret and
Megan Zeng teaming in the second spot to defeat Pauline Celedonio and Micaelli Magday 6-3.
Ducret picked up the first singles win of the day at #5, taking down Carla Arce 6-1, 6-2. Jackson followed at #1 with a 6-4, 7-5 win against Ege.
Zeng topped Celedonio 7-5, 6-1 at #4 and freshman
Riya Matharoo came back for a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9) win over Hudson at #2.
The Rams' (2-1) only win came at #3 singles.
UT Dallas Notes
- Jackson and Vedula improve to 33-9 in career duels as a team.
- Jackson also earned her 31st singles match, ranking sixth all-time in program history.
- Matharoo won in a tiebreaker in her singles duel debut.
