ABILENE, Texas - The UT Dallas women's tennis team defeated Hardin-Simmons 8-1 at the Streich Tennis Center Friday afternoon.
The Comets (6-5) swept through doubles play to go up 3-0 on the Cowgirls (8-10). Senior duo
Rebecca Jackson and
Saumya Vedula defeated Laurel Coleman and Jonnah Smith 8-2 at number one and
Megan Zeng and
Elyssa Ducret won at two against Brenna Gordon and Addyson Tylaska 8-2 in the second spot. The third flight was won by
Jhastine Red Ballado and
Elsha Valluru 8-1 against Christa Bennett and Halle Smith.
UTD went on to win five of the six singles points. Freshman
Riya Matharoo was perfect against Jonnah Smith at two, 6-0, 6-0 as was Ducret over Halle Smith at six.
Reika Nagai,
Saumya Vedula and
Megan Zeng also picked up victories.
UT Dallas Notes
- Ducret and Zeng are now 7-4 in doubles.
- Valluru and Ballado improved to 6-2 as a team.
- In singles, Ducret, Matharoo, Nagai and Zeng each won their seventh match of the year.
