RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's tennis team defeated Concordia Texas 8-1 at the UTD Tennis Courts Sunday afternoon.
The Comets (7-5) swept all three doubles points from the Tornados (9-4). Senior tandem
Rebecca Jackson and
Saumya Vedula defeated Kayla Pena and Isabella Cepeda 8-4 at number one while juniors
Elyssa Ducret and
Megan Zeng were victorious at two 8-3.
Elsha Valluru and
Jhastine Red Ballado won 8-2 over Trinity Klamecki and Aria Moreni in the third flight.
UTD went on to take five of the six singles matches. Freshman
Riya Matharoo was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Pena at number one and Vedula topped Klamecki 6-2, 6-4 at three. Zeng did not give up a game to Natalia Goodman with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number four. Ducret took the first set from Emily Pullen 6-0 before winning by retirement and Valluru won 7-5, 6-2 in the sixth slot.
Matharoo, Zeng and Ducret each picked up their eighth singles win of the season. Ducret and Zeng are now 8-4 in doubles while Valluru and Ballado are 7-2.
UTD will travel to Marshall for a match against East Texas Baptist on Friday at 2 p.m. The winner will win the American Southwest Conference East Division and the right to host the league championship tournament April 25-27.
