MARSHALL, Texas - The UT Dallas women's tennis team defeated East Texas Baptist 7-2 at Veterans Memorial Tennis Courts Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Comets (8-5) won the American Southwest Conference East Division with a 4-0 record and the right to host next week's conference tournament.Â
The champions took two of the three doubles points from the host Tigers (13-4, 3-1 ASC East). Seniors
Rebecca Jackson and
Saumya Vedula defeated Addy Seward and Monique Ybarra 8-6 at number one and freshmen
Riya Matharoo and
Reika Nagai beat Isabelle Duarte and Kristyn Dunn 8-3 in the third spot.
UTD went on to win five singles points. Nagai had the deciding fifth point at number three, topping Bailey Smith 6-2, 6-3. Matharoo, Vedula,
Elsha Valluru and
Jhastine Red Ballado each earned singles victories as well.
UT Dallas Notes
- This is the seventh Divisional title overall and sixth in a row dating back to 2018 for the Comets in program history.
- Matharoo improved to 9-4 on the season in singles, the most of anyone on the team.
- Negai is 8-4 in singles in 2024.
