RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas put on pressure late, but fell just short in a 4-3 loss to Texas Lutheran at UTD Soccer Field Sunday afternoon.
The host Comets (1-3) opened the scoring in the ninth minute when junior midfielder
Kaley Robison flew through the Bulldogs' (2-2-1) backline and found freshman
Jules Chavez who blasted it to the back right of the net.
The game remained 1-0 until the second half when TLU rattled off four goals early in the period over a 16-minute span. Klarissa Martinez drew a foul in the box and converted a penalty kick in the 48th minute. Martinez and Lilly Noblett assisted Alyssa Simien's goal just 2:30 later, followed by another Martinez goal two minutes after that. Natalia Cortez put in the Bulldog's final goal in the 64th minute.
Less than a minute later, Chavez earned her second goal of the game, pushing by a number of defenders and scooted the ball in the lower right corner. In the 86th minute, Chavez blasted a shot that found Robison's foot to make the game 4-3.Â
TLU outshot UTD 17-13 overall and 10-6 on goal. The Bulldogs also led in corner kicks, 6-1, and both teams committed nine fouls.
