UTD Women's Soccer Opens Regular Season at #5 CNU

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - After a trio of exhibition contests, the UT Dallas women's soccer team played its first regular season match of the 2024 campaign Friday afternoon and lost to #5 Christopher Newport 3-0 at Captains Stadium.

The host Captains (2-0-1) got on the board in the 14th minute with a Hanna Heaton goal. Heaton struck again in the 52nd minute and Molly Seventko added the final score in the 65th.

CNU outshot the Comets (0-1) 30-3 overall and 12-2 on goal. The Captains led in fouls 10-8 and corner kicks 10-0.

UT Dallas Notes
- Freshman midfielder Amelia Griffin took a shot on goal.
- Jules Chavez, also a freshman midfielder, also attempted a shot on goal.
- Sophomore center back Jenna Wilkinson took a shot and played all 90 minutes for the Comets.
- Senior keeper Jade Press made nine saves.
- 14 players made their UTD debut - Griffin, Chavez, Lyla Nielsen, Chelsea Vilca, Layla Rangel, Rowen Hughes, Elizabeth Campos, Kaley Robison, Cate Casanova, Kalyn Brewer, Alicia Aguiñaga, Bethany Cone, Lauren Hart and Makayla Varela.
- UTD moves its program total of student-athletes playing in varsity contest to 313, dating back to 1998.
- This was the first match-up between the Comets and the Captains.

- Heaton was responsible for the first two goals.
- Emma Ricci assisted each of Heaton's scores.
- Lexi Hazelgrove and Corinne Kulik each had an assist.
- Amy Sidaway recorded two saves in the shutout.
- Alex Devers took eight shots, four on goal.
- Defenders Nyah Savage and Reanna Slater each logged 90 minutes.
