RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team used another stellar defensive effort to defeat East Texas Baptist 84-48 at the UTD Activity Center Saturday afternoon.
With the visiting Tigers (6-14) up 20-17 with 8:49 left in the first half, the Comets (12-7) went on a 16-1 run over the next five minutes to take the lead for good. UTD went on to shoot 55.6 percent (15-for-27) in the second half while holding ETBU to 25 percent (8-of-32).
The Comets dominated the boards with a 48-21 advantage. The Tigers' 21 rebounds was the lowest for a UTD opponent this season.
For the game, the Comets shot 51.9 percent (28-of-54) overall, 8-for-16 from outside and 20-of-25 at the charity stripe. They also recorded 20 assists, 14 turnovers, four blocks and six steals.
The Tigers shot 31 percent (18-for-58) overall, 4-for-19 from three-point range and 8-of-14 at the line with 15 assists, eight turnovers, five blocks and four steals.
UT Dallas Notes
- Sophomore guard
Matthew Soto scorched the nets for 20 points, going 7-for-9 overall and 4-for-5 from three-point territory. It was second 20-point game of the year.
- Junior center
Austin Page posted 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.
- Forward Joardn Balderaz had nine points on 3-of-4 shooting.
- Senior guard
Ryan Nurenberg scored eight points, hitting a pair of three-pointers, in just five minutes off the bench.
- Senior
Rob Wade had seven points and five rebounds.

- Sophomore forward
Zach Spitzer recorded six points, eight rebounds, five assists, two blocks and a steal.

- Colin Roberts led ETBU with 13 points and grabbed four rebounds.
