Comets Overcome 22-Point Deficit to Defeat Cowboys in OT

ABILENE, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team erased a 22-point deficit to defeat Hardin-Simmons 83-80 in overtime at the Mabee Complex Thursday night.

The Comets (13-7) trailed the Cowboys (10-9) 40-20 at halftime and 44-22 early in the second half. UTD's shooting heated up in the second, draining 60 percent of its shots (18-of-30), including 5-of-11 from three-point territory and 8-of-11 at the line.

A lay-up by Peyton Dulin with 4:57 left in regulation tied the game up at 61-61. Tied at 67-67 with under a minute to play, junior center Austin Page battled down low to score a bucket to give UTD a 69-62 advantage with 32 seconds left. Chris Bryant tied it up with under 10 seconds remaining to force the extra period.

The Comets went up 80-75 with a Dulin three-pointer with 33 seconds on the clock in overtime. Cooper Peterson answered with a three-pointer to make it a two-point game. A Matthew Soto free throw gave UTD a three-point lead, followed by a pair of free throws by Peterson with under 10 seconds left to make the game 81-80.

Page was fouled and converted a pair of free throws with 6.2 seconds left to ice the game in favor of the Comets. The Cowboys missed two free throws and a three-pointer at the buzzer, allowing UTD to leave Abilene with the victory.

The Comets went 7-for-10 at the charity stripe in the overtime, while the Cowboys were 4-for-9.

UTD shot 48.3 percent (29-for-60) for the game, 9-of-24 from three-point range and 16-of-26 at the line with 46 rebounds, 13 assists, 18 turnovers, three blocks and five steals.

HSU shot 40.6 percent (26-of-64) overall, 11-of-30 from outside and 17-of-30 at free throw line with 36 boards, 14 assists, 10 turnovers, six blocks and 12 steals.

UT Dallas Notes
- Page led UTD with 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting and 6-of-7 at the stripe. He also grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots.
- Soto posted 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting to go with five rebounds and four assists.
- Sophomore forward Zach Spitzer recorded his first double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
- Senior guard Nick Donnelly added 10 points.
- Dulin finished with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.
- Freshman forward Bryce Potts chipped in nine points off the bench.
- Sophomore AJ Carter drained a pair of three-pointers for six points.
- Senior Rob Wade grabbed four boards.

- Chris Bryant had 11 points, five rebounds and two blocks.
- Silas Livingston went 4-for-5 shooting with 11 points, three assists and two steals off the bench.
- Trevion Howell and Peterson each scored 11.
- Silas Davis added 10 points and a pair of steals.
- Will Bartoszek was limited to eight points and six rebounds.
- Austin Brewer finished with three blocks, four assists and eight rebounds.
