ABILENE, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team left Kimbrell Arena with an 83-80 win over McMurry Saturday afternoon.
The Comets (8-6) and War Hawks (2-7) were battling back-and-forth throughout the first half with the home team leading 42-40 at the break. McMurry shot 60.7 percent (17-for-28) from the field in the first period, while UTD was 8-for-16 from three-point range.
The War Hawks held a 49-45 advantage with 17:14 to play but the Comets answered with a 21-7 run to go up by 10 points over the next seven minutes.
A pair of free throws by McMurry's Kino Thompson made the game 80-79 with 18 seconds remaining. UTD's
Nick Donnelly made a pair of free throws to take a three-point lead. Thompson was fouled and went 1-for-2 with five seconds left. Sophomore forward
Zach Spitzer secured the game with a free throw for the Comets with three seconds on the clock.
For the game, UTD shot 46.6 percent (27-for-58) overall, 13-of-26 from three-point range and 16-of-25 from the line. They also had 33 rebounds, 11 assists, 15 turnovers, a block shot and eight steals.
McMurry shot 49.2 percent (30-for-61) from the field, 13-of-25 from outside and 7-for-11 at the free throw line with 28 rebounds, 17 assists, 12 turnovers, six blocks and eight steals.
UT Dallas Notes
- The Comets tied their season-high with 13 three-pointers made.
- Donnelly buried five three-pointers en route to 22 points. He has made 22 three-pointers over the last four games.
- Freshman guard
Peyton Dulin scored a season-high 17 points, going 6-for-9 from the floor, including a trio of three-pointers. He also grabbed four offensive fouls.
- Spitzer recorded 10 points, six rebounds and three steals while shooting 4-of-5.
- Junior center
Austin Page just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds while dishing out a team-high three assists.
- Senior forward
Rob Wade added 10 points and two assists off the bench.
- Sopohmore
Jordan Balderaz finished with seven points and six rebounds.
