Comets Take Mustangs to Five Sets

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas volleyball team lost a five-set thriller to Midwestern State 25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-6 on Friday night at the UTD Activity Center.

Midwestern State (13-4, 6-2 Lone Star) overcame the University of Texas at Dallas (3-14, 1-6 Lone Star) 

First Set Highlights
- The Mustangs (13-4, 6-2 Lone Star) opened with a 4-0 lead, aided by a service ace from Trinity Vinzant.  
- The Comets (3-14, 1-6 LSC) responded with a 6-0 run, including two service aces from Jane Burkhardt, leveling the score at 6-6.  
- Moriah Johnson's three kills during a crucial stretch helped UTD take a 13-10 lead.  
- MSU regained momentum with a 5-0 run, extending their lead to 22-17 after consecutive points from Jaiden Wright and Vinzant.  
- UTD closed the gap to 24-23 with a late surge, including a service ace by Averi Frazier, but Midwestern State secured the set 25-23.

Second Set Highlights 
- Johnson opened the scoring for UTD with a kill assisted by Abby Gentner.  
- UTD executed a series of scoring plays early, extending their lead to 10-2 with a service ace by Kira Braun punctuating the run.  
- MSU rallied back, closing the gap to 19-19 after a kill from Giselle Cazares tied the score.  
- Key late plays by the Comets, including a service ace from Sydney Sabin, helped regain the advantage.  
- UTD secured the set 25-21 after a closing kill by Jada Williams.

- Burkhardt delivered early for UTD with two kills, keeping the set tight at 3-3.
