Burkhardt Breaks Kills Record as Comets Win in Four

DURANT, Okla. - Freshman outside hitter Jane Burkhardt broke the school record with 32 kills as the UT Dallas volleyball team defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State 25-20, 19-25, 25-18, 25-19 at Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium Tuesday evening.

Bukrhardt, from Phoenix, Ariz., hit .386 with just five errors on 70 attacks, breaking Stephanie Waller's old mark of 31 kills in a five-set match in 2007.

First Set Highlights
- The Comets (4-15) gained early momentum with a 5-1 run, capitalizing on consecutive kills by Burkhardt and Laura See.  
- UTD extended their lead to 16-8, capitalizing on multiple attack errors by the Savage Storm (7-14).  
- Southeastern narrowed the gap to 21-18, but UTD responded with strong offensive plays to secure the set.  
- Burkhardt's decisive kill closed the set at 25-20 for the Comets.

Second Set Highlights
- Early exchanges kept the set close until the Savage Storm gained momentum with a 6-1 run, taking a 12-6 lead.  
- A late 5-0 run by the Comets, including a service ace from Sydney Sabin, brought them within 21-18.  
- SOSU closed out the set with a pivotal kill by Maci Morrison, securing a 25-19 win.

Third Set Highlights
- UTD opened with a 2-0 lead following a kill by Burkhardt and an attack error from the Savage Storm.

- Mari Hernandez led the defense with 25 digs, contributing 3 assists and 1 service ace.  She is averaging 6.13 digs per set over the last four matches.
- Abby Gentner orchestrated the offense with 50 assists, adding 19 digs, 5 kills with a .500 hitting percentage, and 1 service ace. It was her 11th double-double of the season.
- Melia Mendoza-Flores added 9 kills on a .412 hitting percentage.
- Camryn Kerlick provided 7 kills on a .217 hitting percentage, with 2 blocks (one solo) for 8.5 points.
- Moriah Johnson added 10 kills.
- Syney Sabin came up with 12 digs.
- Averi Frazier had a season-best 10 digs.

Southeastern Oklahoma State Performances
- Alaina Armstrong led SOSU with 14 kills, 18 digs, and 15.5 points.  
- Alexis Williams contributed 8 kills, 1 service ace, and 6 total blocks.  
- Jasmin Dion facilitated with 32 assists, 3 kills, and 2 total blocks.  
- Kylee Turner added 16 digs and 3 assists.
