UTD Defeats Sul Ross in Straight Sets for Second Consecutive Sweep

RICHARDSON, Texas - For the second match in a row, the UT Dallas volleyball team produced a Lone Star Conference sweep, defeating Sul Ross State 25-17, 26-24, 25-17 at the UTD Activity Center Saturday afternoon.

First Set Highlights
- The Lobos (3-18, 1-13 LSC) initially took the lead with a service ace from Jade Munoz, but the Comets (7-17, 4-9 LSC) quickly responded with a block by Camryn Kerlick and Laura See.  
- UTD gained early momentum, opening with a 6-3 lead highlighted by a service ace from Averi Frazier.  
- The home team extended the advantage to 15-9, capitalizing on errors from the Lobos and a service ace by Mari Hernandez.  
- SRSU attempted a late rally, narrowing the margin to 18-14 with two kills from Sarah Chavez, but the Comets maintained control.  
- Jane Burkhardt's multiple kills helped the Comets close the set 25-17.
- UTD hit .406 with 16 kills in the opening frame.

Second Set Highlights 
- The Comets took an early 6-3 lead with Lila Westphal contributing two kills.  
- Sul Ross State rallied to a 12-10 advantage.
- UTD responded with a 7-0 run, featuring strong blocking and a kill by Moriah Johnson, to regain control at 17-13.  
- Despite a late surge by the Lobos, including consecutive service aces by BreAnna Quarles, the Comets secured the set 26-24 with a block and a kill from Johnson.

Third Set Highlights
- The Comets capitalized on several attack errors to build an early 6-3 lead.
- Sul Ross responded with a 5-0 run, highlighted by two kills from Novah Carrasco, to take a 10-8 advantage.  
- UTD regained control with a critical 5-0 run, highlighted by two kills from Burkhardt and a service ace from Avery Pickard.  
- The Comets closed on a strong note, taking seven of the final ten points, including a final pair of kills from Johnson and Abby Gentner, to win the set 25-17.
- UTD hit .400 with 18 kills in the final set.

The Comets hit a season-best .277 with 48 kills, three aces, eight blocks and 61 digs. The Lobos hit .092 with 30 kills, six aces, three blocks and 51 digs.
