RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team lost its home opener 67-57 to East Central at the Activity Center on Wednesday afternoon.
After being tied at 12-12 over the first 10 minutes, the Comets (0-5) went on a 12-2 run, capped by a tip-in layup by junior forward
Zach Spitzer, to go up 24-14. They led the Tigers (4-1) 30-25 at halftime.
ECU chipped away at the deficit before taking the lead for good at 41-40 with 10:50 to play. The Tigers led by as many as 15 before coming up with the 10-point win.
UTD shot 38.6 percent (22-for-57) from the field, 4-for-20 from outside and 9-of-14 from the line. They also had 36 rebounds, 10 assists, 16 turnovers, five blocks and seven steals.
ECU shot 43.9 percent (25-of-57) overall, 6-of-18 from three-point range and 9-for-17 at the line with 35 rebounds, 15 assists, 14 turnovers, seven blocks and nine steals.
UT Dallas Performances
- Freshman center
Hudson Goellner recorded his second double-double of the year with 16 points and 10 rebounds. He also blocked two shots.
- Sophomore guard Peton Dulin scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds.
- Freshman forward
Jacob Smithey chipped in eight points.

Jordan Balderaz had five points and seven rebounds.

Kris White made a pair of three-pointers for six points.
East Central Performances
- Kaneron Newsome led the Tigers with 16 points off the bench.
- Jordan England had 12 points.
- Rustin Coffey recorded 11 points and four rebounds.
- Kyler Mann had nine boards.
- Jaden Miller dished out six assists.
